LIFT is a coaster I designed in collaboration with Space Montrose, a retail store and gallery in Houston, TX.

The coaster helps reduce condensation by letting air underneath the surface the glass sits on. The laser-engraved image is of Houston’s major highways.

I chose a simple but sturdy and streamlined trapezoidal shape.

I conceptualized several “above-ground” coaster designs. I wanted them to be striking but relatively simple.

The coaster is constructed in a lay-up mold. It is made of three layers of veneer and one layer of cork that keeps it from sliding. I milled two molds from MDF.

The coasters sold out at Space Montrose!
